With the development of Chinese economy, urbanization and industrialization, the growing demand for land appears to be larger and larger. While large numbers of agricultural land are transformed into construction land, more and more peasants lost their land which support their life. Lost land peasants usually face two options: some peasants in use of their geographical advantages, get stable income by renting their house or doing some temporary job; the other part of peasants are difficult to maintain livelihoods, for their compensation is too little, they had to work in cities. The later peasants' lives are not stable, their roles are on the boundary between urban and rural, and these peasants have no land, no job, and no social security. Their lives are very hard, rely on the limited compensation. This paper mainly concerns the later peasants, for they will be a group who has increasingly become Chinese most vulnerable, unprotected and marginalized group. This problem is becoming tremendous instability factor and will influence Chinese social stability, how to solve and handle this problem has been focused on the party, the government and the community. The central and local governments have promulgated a series of policies to protect the rights of the land lost peasants; the actions have been eased the pressure on this issue to a large extent. This thesis mainly studied the problem of land lost of peasants. Firstly, the thesis reviewed the process of land lost of Chinese peasants, described the status of basic situation. Secondly, the thesis displayed some cases in nearly 5 years, based upon the analysis of all the cases; author concluded the character of the land lost: the amount and rate increased by degrees, illegal cases increased, the interests of peasants could not be protected well. Thirdly, the paper analyzed the social problems caused by the land lost: leading peasants' families to poverty, causing great social injustice, leading peasants to be an awkward identity, affecting social harmony and stability. Reasons of the problems above could be: the land compensation system was inconsequential, social security system was imperfect, behaviors of basic government lacking self-discipline, behaviors of village cadres lacking supervision, peasants were uncompetitive, the ways for peasants' appeal are not expedite. Finally the thesis gave some suggestions to solve the problems above: establishing a rational land requisition compensation mechanism, improving the social security system, strengthening the ability of self-discipline for basic government, increasing the quantity of villagers' autonomy, supervising the behaviors of village cadres.Based upon the results of many scholars' research, the thesis collected 76 cases from 2002 to 2007. The thesis used the methods of positivism analysis, literature search and statistics of network resources. Besides this, the author had visited some peasants and gotten real-life cognition, which supported the viewpoint of this thesis. Through this research, the author attempted to explore Chinese land lost of peasants for a justice and reasonable solution and reference, with the view to the long-term development of Chinese industrialization and urbanization.
