Technical Spillovers From FDI And Ralated Factors: A Threshold Regression Analysis

At present the studies about technical spillover effect of FDI have different results. Some studies beileive it is significant positive, but some studies don't agree that. According to the analysis of literatures, we found that there is threshold effect in technical spillover .This paper uses Chinese provincial data from 2003～2007, and uses threshold regression methods to study this problom.Firstly, we analysis that intellectual property protection, human capital, technology gap, R&D are the important influencing factors of the technical spillover effect of FDI.Then the empirical results tell us threshold effect does exsit which has verified the initial judgment.If the level of intellectual property protection is higher than the threshold value, technical spillover effect of FDI is significant negative. If the level of intellectual property protection is lower than the threshold value, technical spillover effect of FDI can be neglectable.If the level of human capital is higher than the threshold value, technical spillover effect of FDI can be neglectable. If the level of human capital is lower than the threshold value, technical spillover effect of FDI can be neglectable is significant positive. If the level of technology gap is lower than the threshold value, technical spillover effect of FDI is significant negative. If the level of technology gap is higher than the threshold value, technical spillover effect of FDI is significant positive. If the level of R&D is higher than the threshold value, technical spillover effect of FDI is significant negative. If the level of R&D is lower than the threshold value, technical spillover effect of FDI is significant positive.Finally, we can know which factors of China's 30 provinces or autonomous regions play the positive roles according to the results of the analysis results, and make policy recommendations accordingly.
