China is a country that has 750 million people who live in rural area. Rural energy has an important influence on national energy strategy. The improvement of rural domestic energy has a great effect on people's living quality and energy efficiency improving. With the rural household living condition changing, the energy consumption is also changed correspondingly. How to accelerate energy consumption transition becomes a very important thing, especially the transition from inefficient fuels to efficient. Because of this reason this paper intent to find out rural energy use situation and to explore which factor will affect the transition procedure. This paper expects to offer some policy suggestions trough the analysis. This article chose Nanjing as a research site. Base on the field survey, this article hopes to find out the actual rural household energy consumption in Nanjing. Through analysis the factors that may affect the fuel choice, realize the factors that will promote or obstruct energy transition. This paper consists of five chapters. Chapter one is the introduction. In this chapter illuminates the research background, purpose and significance of the paper, reviews the domestic and foreign research progress on rural energy and concludes the factors that effect rural household energy choice, and gives this paper's research hypothesis. Chapter two concludes rural energy consumption historical characteristics in China. Chapter three on the basis of introduction about basic situation of research region concretely analyzes the construction of rural household energy. In this chapter finds that traditional biomass energy still plays an important role in rural household energy and most of the families are use biomass energy and commercial energy simultaneously in the research region. Chapter four analyses the factors that influence household energy use and choice. This paper using Tobit model and Ordinal logit model to analyze the factors in these two models respectively, the result of the regression finds out that income affects the household energy use and choice. The household tends to choose commercial energy, and less chooses traditional biomass energy with the income increasing. The biomass is an inferior good to in this paper. The consumption of the biomass is declined with the income increasing. The off-farm employment is also important to household energy transition, especially the effect of the off-farm income. Chapter five gives some policy suggestions based on the conclusions that elicit from the analysis. It is necessary to consider how to using the traditional biomass energy reasonably. Meanwhile when establishing an energy policy should aim at target group.
