Study On The Theory And Application Of Multi-Project Management Based On Complex Systems Theory

With the evolution of globalization, any enterprise could not rely solely on one project to survive. Often, there are many projects going on at the same time. We are living in a complex environment, therefore, the traditional Project Management model cannot fulfill the requirements of modern complex multi-project management any more. Instructed by Complex System Theory, this thesis will mainly focus on investigating the solution to the problems in complex multi-project management.In this thesis, the main research work is as the followingFirst, complex systems theory as a guide, combined with the emergence theory and the harmonization theory, researches are conducted on the multi-project management's complex features, such as self-organizing, the emergence and the dynamic evolution, etc. including their internal and external complexity .Researches are also conducted on MAS Theory which is based on the complex system theory, and then, as an application of the MAS Theory, a modeling analysis for the multi-project management system are formed. Each Agent's internal model is constructed and the analysis of its running mechanism is presented.Second, Process management of the multi-project management is the next approach. On the basis of MAS Theory, the internal model with resource coordination is constructed, of which the running mechanism will be analyzed. Complex system theory as the foundation, researches are conducted on the information collaboration and communication for the multi-project management system, also, a multi-project management system's collaborative information platform & overall framework is built, with an analysis of how it is operated.Third, The case of how the information system in Tyco Group set the multi-project management will be regarded as a real example. On the platform of JADE, the actual programming test for multi-project resource accordance is conducted based on MAS theory.Through the above-mentioned study and research, the main research results and findings are as the following: First: multi-project management is in accordance with the characteristics of complex systems, under the instruction of complex systems theory, problems such as goal incoordination, poor communication of information and resource conflicts could be resolved in multi-project management process.Second: Based on the MAS theory, the multi-project management system model is formed.The internal structure and running mechanical of the model is presented. The multi-project management system's collaborative information platform & overall framework is built. This framwork proposes the solution towards the information solitary island and information incoordination, which has a practical and positive meaning.Third: Through the resource coordination of multi-project management system, one independent project could extend its range of acquisition of resources. This can enable the project not to be limited by itself, but to obtain support from other projects, which leads to the improvement of the overall performance.
