The Statistical Research On Urban Poverty Problem In Zhejiang Province

The problem of poverty is always a world-wide problem, is also one of the most serious challenges facing the human being. Along with the deepening of economic reform, expanding the income gap step by step and lacking the protection of the interests of vulnerable groups, poverty will lead to a series of social problems. Against this background, concern about the poor and the problem of poverty is an important duty of government and the consensus of all scholars with conscience, also the contemporary Chinese public's strong appeal. Therefore, in-depth study of the problem of poverty, accurate understanding of poverty, measuring the poverty, and exploring ways to further reduce or eliminate poverty is not only related to improving the living standards of the poor ,but also having a positive impact on the overall strategy structuring harmonious well-off society.This paper introduced the theory of poverty at first, and compared of various methods of calculation of the poverty line, then brought forward new idea of calculation of the poverty line. Second, on the basis of introducing the system of the poverty indices (including the poor breadth, depth of poverty, poverty intensity), author calculated the poverty indices with the method of fitting the Lorenz curve, and brought forward self view to decomposition of changing poverty. Next, the author calculated the urban poverty line over the years in Zhejiang Province using the new method of calculating the poverty line, conducted empirical research on the extent of poverty and analyzed economic growth and income distribution on the impact of changes in poverty. Finally, the author has done a summary of the overall situation of urban poverty in Zhejiang Province, and has carried out policy analysis of the extent of poverty. Through determining the urban poverty line and measuring the extent of poverty, the author hope that this paper will provide useful reference of anti-poverty strategies and effective implementation for urban of Zhejiang province, and make anti-poverty policy formulation and implementation of more realistic.
