With the increasing paces of economic globalization, fierce market competition, SMEs need to adopt correct management strategy to be competitive. This becomes a must especially after China's entry into the WTO. The enterprises competition is talent competition with human resource management as the core. And performance management is a key to better human resource management. Performance management can be defined as goal setting between manager and staff, and also how to achieve it through excellent performance management process. Performance management is a strategic way of team building, individual's potential development as well as staff performance improvement. Through performance management, companies can help motivate employees to work much more effective, encourage them to develop their potential, while the work through continuous communication and exchange ideas. And at the same time, enhance employees to express their desire, and enhance team cohesion, improving team performance, development of cooperation between employees and managers.Given the importance of performance management, this paper is developed from the basic theory of performance management, with performance management research of the Zhaoqing Zhagang Medical materials factory, to explore ways to improve SME performance management system and how to construct the performance management mode. This thesis is divided into six parts:the first part is an introduction with the background of this research and the research content; second part is the summary of performance management, and relevant performance management concepts and theories; The third section describes the performance management of the mentioned factory, and domestic situation of SMEs in the overall performance management; fourth part is the problem analysis of performance management of the factory; The fifth part is the problem solving analysis to the factory; The sixth is the recommendations to the domestic SME performance management, pointing out that only to apply advanced performance management theory into corporate culture and use ones own performance management mode are the keys to success for the SMEs.
