For a branded manufacturing enterprise who wants to persue long term success in the market and who wants to achieve sustainable development and stronger profile, new product development is very vital. New product development is the core for the whole operation of an enterprise. It's the origin and source of all activities of an enterprise. Today's world market has just been impacted by the finanicial crisis and hasn't stepped out of the marsh. The competition in the market becomes much fiercer, the customer has become more critical to the product's performance, quality and price. The market needs change from previous large order - few items to small order– more items, persue unique and diverse product combination. The previous product design and development practice has been greatly challenged, this requires enterprises to review, change and reengineer its new product development process to satisfy this changed and changing market.Company M is headquartered in Wisconsion USA, it was established in 1921, it's main products are all kinds locks, factory safety products, it's also been greatly challenged in today's maket environment. This artice talks about using the theory and approach of Process Reengineering to review the product development process of Company M, dignose the problems existing in the process, then reengineer the process to improve the whole operation effiency, reduce product development cost, improve product development quality and strengthen the overall competitiveness.This article has used Enterprise Diagnosis methodology to study the new product development process of Company M. The whole article is separated in foure chapters. Chapter One introduces the background and meaning of this study, reviews the history of the theory - Process Reengineering and the way it comes into being, introduced the principle and methodology of Process Reengineering and the theory and development of Stagge-Gate. Chapter Two introduces the basic conditions of Company M, it's major products and the market environment it has and also describes the existing new product development process of Company M.Chapter Three analyzes the existing new product development process of company M. It uses ASME method to analyze the new product development process of company M before Reegineering, obviously indicates the value-added and non-value added taches; then it uses ABC method to calculate the actual cost of new product development avtivites before Reegineering. Finally, it uses Cause and Effect Analysis method to analyze the reasons why non-value added taches are removed;Champer Four reengineers the process based comprehensive analysis of the existing new product development process of company in Chapter Three, describs the process in details, it has also applied the Gate Management theory and method during the Reengineering. The article put forward the effect of the Process Reengineering is due to achieve, further explains the thoughts of sustainable improvement after Process Reengineering, points out the direction of further development of process reengineering for new product development of company M.
