EPDM/PP dynamic vulcanization thermoplastic elastomer is a new type of rubber materials. EPDM/PP thermoplastic elastomer not only has the high elasticity, high strength, high elasticity similar as the rubber, but also can be processed similar as plastic. It has an excellent weather resistance, fatigue resistance and temperature resistance. It is widely applied in auto parts, electronic cable, building materials etc. In recent years, a great progress has been made in thermoplastic elastomer of our country, but some property deficiencies are still exist compare to developed country. So the researches in EPDM/PP thermoplastic elastomer are still necessary.We blend PP and EPDMthrough Torque rheometer, mixer and double-screw extruder, and then the preparation process and property of EPDM/PP are studied. The feed ratio of the EPDM/PP is changed, and then the mechanical properties are discussed. The naphthenic oil is employed to improve the material properties. The material properties of the EPDM/PP with different content of phenolic resin curing agent are discussed.The EPDM/PP thermoplastic elastomer prepared by double screw extruder is show an excellent performance in the industrial production. The EPDM/PP thermoplastic elastomer are show the best combination properties when the EPDM/PP rubber plastic ratio reach 1.47. The mechanical properties reach the best value when the filling amount of naphthenic oil is 15%-20%. The tensile strength, elongation and elastic modulus increases are all increase with the increasing of phenolic resin/accelerant. The elastomer will be degraded when the vulcanizing agent content reaches a high value. So the phenolic resin 150 g is added to 10 Kg EPDM to get the best comprehensive performance.In this paper, the EPDM/PP thermoplastic elastomers were modified and studie d on the basis of the above production conditions.The different content CaCO3 was added to the EPDM/PP thermoplastic elastomers. Experiments show that the deco mposition temperature was raised with the CaCO3 added. The crystallization time wa s extended and crystallization rate was reduced compared with pure PP when CaC O3 was added. EPDM/PP thermoplastic elastomer show the best mechanical propertie s when the content of CaCO3 was 9%-12%.
