The Study Of Product Safety Design Based On Cognition

The error is the common weakness for human being. Mankind made products to protect their own safety. But it will lead to some insecurity problems if the products are not consistent with human cognition and cause the wrong operation by them. So this paper starts from the perspective of users’ cognition to come to the point of safety product design. Firstly, it finds out the cognitive problems which should be attention in the design of caution through the study of cognitive theory. Then by studying the error behavior of users through the experiment, the error cognition mapping model is constructed. This model assists to explore the users’ cognition from two aspects of theory and experiment, and provides the analysis for safety design of products, in order to form a design strategy of a study of users’ cognition and product safety. Finally, this method is applied to the safety design of the kitchen.This paper analyzes the theory from caution, perception, memory, and offers suggestions of design to potential security problems. In experimental part, it defines error behaviors and cognitive reasons, presents tasks and procedures of experiment, in which 20 selected users experienced error experiment on six most used kitchenware and kitchen appliances. Based on this, it figures out common error statistics, sets up one related error cognition mapping model according to user interviews and expert advises. Then it shows how this model analyzes with enough cases, thus provides more analysis ways and design aspects for kitchen products research. The analysis results and the theoretical study of the design proposal and other aspects of the research will all be used to make a reference for the product safety design. Finally it summarizes the research strategies, redesigned the instruction of the microwave oven. This paper sums up the product safety design strategies based on cognition, from a point of cognition to study the safety design of kitchen products, to provide some basis and the reference value for the design of other products.
