The stainless steel fiber is pure metal fiber, which has big volume quality, well electric conduction, good anti-corrosion property, good thermal stability, and so on. It can reach the spinning requirement in the length and fineness aspect, and has apparent superiority on spinning, using and economic performance comparing with nickel, copper and aluminum metal fibers. But when blended with natural or chemical fibers, the fiber loss ratio is too much higher during the spinning procedure, especially carding, so reduce spinning efficiency and consequently result negative influence on the yarn or the final fabric quality. It is necessary study further about its properties, in order to find the loss mechanism and its solutions. The experiments, spraying blending oil on fiber's surface used in wool spinning process, mainly test the bending and shearing resistance, and also friction property, and their differences. The results show that the poor properties related above are the important reasons that create heavy damage, and spraying blending oil can weak the damage. Using the cotton card frame to card the stainless steel/cotton 20/80 blended fiber, sprayed the oil or not. Then comparing and analyzing the changes including length of fiber, production rate, and percentage of stainless steel fiber in the blends. We can conclude that:1. The knot and loop tenacity of stainless-steel fiber in different counts is apparently lower comparing with cotton or polyester fiber. The properties of stainless steel filament is better than staple.2. To increase the diameter of wire when carding and its shape, can improve fiber's cut and curing properties in some extent, and enhance the spinning efficiency.3. The friction factor of stainless steel fiber is much higher than the normal fibers. For the fiber manufacturing from the same material, the smaller the diameter, the bigger the friction factor.4. The surface friction decrease quickly after adding blending oil. When the oil concentration goes to 2.87%, the changes come down. And with the increasing of the concentration, the fiber's friction factor keeps almost the same.5. The carding performance, either cotton fiber or stainless steel/cotton 20/80 fiber, have improved after spraying blending oil, that mainly include the following aspects: the quality length and uniformity increase, percentage of short fiber decrease; the finished product rate boosts; percentage of stainless steel fiber in the blended fiber heightens.
