In this paper, a relay assembly Computer Aided Process Planning system (RACAPP1.0) developed on Mechanical Desktop (MDT), 3DS MAX and H_CAD developed by us is discussed. The CAPP system based on the Windows operation system has the feature of visualization, intelligence and combining graph, text and data. It has two chief subsidiary systems of assembly process design, and assembly process simulating. The subsidiary system of assembly process design has assembly flow diagram design, assembly process card design, professional technology rules design and system preference modules, one module is independent in function but related each other, can transfer its design data to others, to realize the integration and intelligence. The subsidiary system of assembly process simulating can realizecomputer simulating for the assembly process designed through the subsidiary system of assembly process design, to check the feasibility of the assembly process, meanwhile can return the result of computer simulating to the assembly process design, to perfect the CAPP system. Also we can return the result of simulating to the structure molding design of product to improve the structure technology of product, so as to improve the assembly technology of product.Using the CAPP system can raise the design ability, shorten the process planning cycle, be suitable for the need of the more variety for our products, and improve the quality of the products. The CAPP system is of great value applied to engineering and of good needs of the market.
