In this thesis, the development of a portable three-phase multifunctional volt-ampere phase meter based on DSP is discussed. Presently, in electrical systems the requirement of real-time performance, high processing precision and huge amount of data to be processed is increasing highlier than before. SCM (Single Chip Microcomputer) system is hard to meet the demands above while DSP system causes more and more attentions because of its high computing speed and powerful data precessing ability. DSP system is now replacing the SCM system in many fields. In this paper, the application of DSP chip is introduced first. Then the difference between DSP chip and a common micro-processor is described. Finally a DSP system designed and developed is introduced in detail.This DSP system is used as a three-phase multifunctional volt-ampere phase meter. The DSP chip TMS320LF2407A is using as the core processor. A multi-channel 12 bit A/D converter AD7859 performs data acquisition. All parameters measured can be displayed in a LCD and printed out. This system is functioned as a three-phase voltage-meter, a three-phase ampere-meter, a phase-meter, a phase sequence meter, a frequency-meter, a power-meter, a power-factor-meter and a spectrum meter. It is very convenient for the field operators and can be used as a secondary meter in mining industry, the petroleum chemical industry, the metallurgical industry.
