Automatic closing clamp are extensively applied in steel factory to convey all kinds of cold rolled steel and hot rolled steel semi-processed products and finished steel roll, which belongs to special hoisting equipments in metallurgy. It can reduce the risk and shorten the cycle of the development to apply virtual manufacturing to the design of clamp mechanisms.Some basic principles about Virtual Manufacture are introduced in the paper, and Virtual Manufacture technology is applied to the design of clamp mechanisms;the operational principle of the Automatic closing clamp and the problems pressing for solution are analyzed;a solution to a problem of automatic closing clamp is proposed;the kinematics and dynamics model is established, the force of each component of the clamp is well roundly analyzed;the not falling-off conditions during the operation of clamp are analyzed and the eccentric angle is calculated.At the same time, the clamp design methods based on facing-assembly process are introduced, the accurate three- dimensional entity models of clamp are built in the three dimension software and the interference of the clamp is in the static and dynamic state are checked;the several exported formats are compared to get the relative merits;and the models are imported into ADAMS , the simulation software;and in the ADAMS virtual prototype of the clamp mechanism is established and its simulations are analyzed to get some key data about each hinge joints forces;the equilibrium condition of the clamp is analyzed in the ADAMS environments, at last the three-dimensional entity models are imported into ANSYS, the finite element analysis software, to carry out stress analysis to get the main stress and strain data of each component, which lays the groundwork for the clamp' s optimal design.The research show that applying Virtual Manufacture technology the whole clamp models can be built in a short time and the movement can be simulated in real time, which can greatly reduce the expensive and taking-time manufacture and experimentprocess of the clamp mechanisms, which make this research have significance and huge engineering application value. And the thesis supplies the effective method and experience for the application of Virtual Manufacture technology in new products' development, and it gives a effective method to shorten the design cycle of new products, reduce the cost and improve scientific research quality.
