When competition of manufacturing enterprises turns to improve the production speed from expanding production scale and improving production quality, how to shorten the time between orders to delivery is the primary factor to win the market for enterprise. And whether the manufacturing facility layout of enterprise is reasonable directly influences its productivity and production period. As one of important branch of Industrial Engineering, the manufacturing facility design is to organize the facility of enterprise to improve the utilization of enterprise resources (human, equipments, materials, energy etc.) to achieve the efficient performance. The traditional method of facility design is mainly quantitative analysis combining with experience, this method is complex in computing and the design period is long, and whether the design plan is reasonable need to verify through real production, so it increases cost and risk, and doesn't adopt to the enterprise production. With rapidly development of system simulation technique, using simulation technique to the design, verification and analysis phases of facility design plans can effectively avoid risk of changing real facility layout.In this paper, our research object is the assembly shop of one trunk manufacturing enterprise. We discuss the technique of facility layout and logistic simulation, analyze the principle and use of logistic simulation software ProModel, build the simulation model of shop, analyze and modify the model to increase the throughput and reduce WIP (work in process).Firstly, we introduce the theory of facility layout design and its evaluation system; mostly discuss the information of facility layout, logistic analysis technique, the performance parameter of manufacturing enterprise and production law and typical production cases; and use these technique to analyze real workshop. Secondly, we introduce the application of system simulation in facility layout; mostly discuss the logistic simulation technique and software, and use simulation software to build the model of workshop. Through analyzing the simulation result to get the production case of the workshop and find the problems of real facility layout and production process. At last, in order to increase throughput and reduce WIP, we use systematic layout planning and line balance method to improve the facility layout and production line of the workshop, propose the improvement plan and build and run its simulation model. The results of simulation show that the improvement plan can achieve the objective of reducing WIP and increasing throughput, and it can be used for decision support of the enterprise.
