Assembly line is a conventional system in manufacturing companies. ALB (Assembly Line Balancing) is important in assembly line design and management. ALB has great effect on manufacturing efficiency. This article introduces assembly line improvement in Yangzhou Diesel Engine CoLtd. The improved line has the working capacity of two lines. It improves the efficiency, reduces the operation cost and ensures good quality.The improvement is detailed in six sections of this article as follows:①Make sure the requirement for the design of the assembly line;②Analyze the previous lines and redesign the process;③Optimize the design of an easy-to-operate trolly by trial and error;④Design a hanger of low cost and high efficiency to adapt to the on-line manual turnover;⑤Improve the distribution for the assembly line;⑥Design a special hanger with air-actuated hoist to reduce the labour intensity.Lean production and production capacity improvement are the principal objectives. Special process is worked out for the purpose of ALB. The improvement, facilitates the quality control, field management and material distribution for the assembly line, and the establishment of information platform. The improved assembly line has greatly enhanced Yangzhou Diesel Engine CoLtd' s production capacity and adaptability to meet the market demand.
