| 1) Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Republic of Korea, the two countries have witnessed increasingly close economic and cultural exchanges. During the period, a large amount of Korean-Chinese literary and non-literary translation works have emerged. The quality of non-literary translations, including those of textbooks, business documents, instruction books and tourist websites are uneven. Through studying the mistakes occurred in the translation works, the author finds out that the translation of long Korean sentences is a difficult point where mistakes often occurs. The long sentences are composed by over two clauses, with subject and object omitted in each clause. It requires scientific processes and techniques to understand Korean long sentences correctly and put them into accurate Chinese. After a period of document retrieval, the author finds out that most of the researches on the techniques of Korean-Chinese translation are general studies, often appear in the forms of textbooks and monograph, some of them are essays and papers. While more concrete and detailed researches on the Korean-Chinese translation are far from enough, and the translation techniques on long Korean sentences are yet to be found. In line with the need of translation practices and academic studies, in the paper, entitled with the Study on the Translation of Korean and Chinese Multi-sentences, the author discusses the methods for translating long sentences and resolving the problems in translation practices. Researches on the translation of Korean and Chinese long sentences could be regarded as a topic of technique research of Korean-Chinese translation. In general, translation researches are composed of 3 parts, theory study, translated work study and technique study. So this paper could be considered a concrete and complementary study on Korean-Chinese translation techniques. The paper will discuss the topic from a number of prospects including description of long sentences translation, analysis on the reasons of incorrect translation, translating Korean long sentences with Nida's Theory of Kernel Sentence Transfer, the uniqueness and strategy of Korean-Chinese long sentence translation. The contents mentioned above will be discussed from the surface to the centre and from the general to the concrete. Firstly, the paper will summarize the types of common incorrect translation by analyzing the mistakes and find out the grammatical reasons for incorrect translation. Secondly, Nida's Theory of Kernel Sentence Transfer is regarded as a common rule in translation, so the paper needs to prove the feasibility of its application to Korean-Chinese translation, in other words, the paper needs to apply common rule in translation to the analysis of Korean-Chinese translation. Finally, the paper discusses the differences between Korean and Chinese long sentences by comparing linguistics of the two languages and explores the uniqueness of Korean-Chinese translation brought by those differences, as well as the strategies to deal with the uniqueness. The key issues focused on are as follows:a) the standard of Korean-Chinese long sentence translation b) the reasons of incorrect translation of Korean-Chinese long sentences c) the feasibility of applying Nida's Theory of Kernel Sentence Transfer to the translation of Korean-Chinese long sentences d) the discussion of the differences of Korean and Chinese long sentences from the perspective of comparative linguistics. The paper's main body is Chapter 2,3 and 4. In Chapter 2, the author adopts descriptive research method and finds out examples of long sentences translation from a dozen of Korean-Chinese translation works (non-literary translation) and describes the phenomenon of Korean-Chinese long sentence translation from the perspective of logic links and the number of clauses. The author summarizes the typical mistakes in translation and looks for the grammatical reasons for the mistakes. Chapter 3 applies comparative linguistics methods to explore the differences between Korean and Chinese long sentences and puts forward strategies to the difficulties in translation brought by the differences. Chapter 4 adopts theory research methodology and applies Nida's (Pioneer in the fields of Translation and Linguistics)Theory of Kernel Sentence Transfer, the representative to the translation of Korean and Chinese long sentences. By comparing the kernel sentences in Korean and Chinese, the Chapter proves the feasibility of the application of Nida's theory, and explains the concrete steps of kernel sentence transfer, as well as applies the method to analyze and translate the example sentences. The translation of Korean-Chinese long sentences discussed in the paper belongs to research of Korean-Chinese translation techniques and could be regarded as a complementary research to the Korean-Chinese translation techniques. Meanwhile, the topic is a new one which lacks of precedent study. The researches before didn't put forward any concrete methods in dealing with long sentences translation. The paper applies Nida's theory to the translation of long sentences and puts forward a set of feasible methods, which is indeed a creation. |
