Strategies For The Translation Of Complicated English Sentences From The Perspective Of Functionalist Skopostheorie

The translating of complicated English sentences has been a scourge fortranslators. Avoiding Europeanized Chinese (hereinafter referred to asEnglinese) and simplifying the translating of such sentences have always beenamong the pursuit of translators. Skopostheorie is regarded as the mostprominent theory in German school of functionalism. Its Skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule are of great help in instructing translation.This paper thus focuses on the establishment of a model of strategies tofacilitate the translating of complicated English sentences and avoid Englinesebased upon the theoretical framework of the functionalist Skopostheorieproposed by Hans J. Vermeer, the text typology elaborated by Katharina Reissand the Kernel Sentence method expounded by Eugene A. Nida.The model of strategies this paper proposes is composed of themacro-stage strategy and the micro-stage three-step strategy of reorganization,reconstruction and regeneration, respectively employing Skopostheorie, thetext typology and the Kernel Sentence as well as analyzing at the textual,syntactical and lexical levels. Drawing strength from excellent versions andlearning lessons from bad ones, the paper finds that the model of strategies isnot only feasible but an excellent approach in translating complicated Englishsentences. By following the model of strategies, the translator can find easieraccess to the translating of complicated sentences and successfully presentidiomatic expressions for his or her purposes.
