There is a great difference between English and Chinese. Long and complex sentences are common in English but not often seen in Chinese, which causes great difficulties to the translation English long sentences in E-C translation. Based on Nida’s theory of Kernel Sentences, the thesis uses Kernel Sentence Analysis to instruct the translation of English long sentences in non-literary texts, and further explores the effective methods of translating English long sentences. Firstly, the thesis studies two main characteristics of English long sentences in non-literary texts:the sentence structure of English long sentences is complicated; the word order of English long sentences is more flexible. Secondly, the thesis introduces Kernel Sentence Analysis and its guidance to the translation of English long sentences. Lastly, the thesis provides some examples to analyze in detail the strategies of translating English long sentences under the guidance of Kernel Sentence Analysis.
