A Semiconductor Companies To Third-party Logistics Providers Based On Ahp Evaluation System

The special 3PL requirements due to its industry characteristic, such as quick response, global customers base, high value of the machines, challenges the 3PL's ability in terms of their capabilities, cost, security, information system etc. The objective of this paper is to build a reasonable and comprehensive evaluating system for semiconductors players, meanwhile, 3PLs can further improve its core competence and service level to better serve semiconductor industry by the in-depth study of the paper where they can find their own strength and weakness.The paper builds the 3PL evaluating system by studying of the related literature and the experience learned from the real practice in selecting and evaluating 3PL in semiconductor company in the past few years. In this paper, the special requirements to 3PL logistics and the existing 3PLs situation are analyzed, by the using the methodology of AHP, the paper suggests the 3PL evaluating system for semiconductor industry and weighs the indictors as well, which is helpful to 3PL selection decision-making. Based on the outcomes from the paper, there are 6 1st level indictors evaluated, they are : Capabilities, Cost, Information System, Financial Status, Security and Other, for each of them, there are a sub-level indictors to be considered. The paper suggests, the number one indictor to be considered when evaluating 3PL is Capabilities, which is quite difference to the opinion of most of scholars who often thin Cost is the most important one to be considered, to evaluate 3PL's Capabilities, the transportation network and transportation capability is the first ones to evaluate. and the paper mentions the semiconductor players shall focus on Reasonable Cost, not the Lowest Cost. Information System, Financial Status and Security are considered as the 1st level indictors, which indicates its importance when evaluating the 3PLS, besides this, the commitment from the 3PL's high level management, the human resource and training, the culture etc are considered as well, which is classified to the Others indictor.
