The foreign trade of our country has a fast and sustainable development since reform and opening. In 2004 the amount of import and export ranked three in the world. But the present growth-pattern of foreign trade is an extensive one and hasn't changed much along with its increasing scale. For example, the benefit of export doesn't match the expanding export scale, the export products are plentiful but the whole quality is low and is of a poor competence, the friction of export is aggravating, the domestic ecology is destroyed and the environment pollution is serious. If foreign trade develops on the basis of present grow-pattern without any change, the foreign trade of our country won't increase fast with the support of domestic investment, resources, environment and international trade surroundings. The above-mentioned growth-pattern of foreign trade is suitable to the planned economy system in the past, and it is inevitable to change into an intensive one in the process of transition to market economy. After many years of economic construction and reform, our country's industrial foundation is abundant enough and the reform of market system has taken effect. Meanwhile our government has paid more attention to the foreign trade and adjusts relevant development strategies and policies. All the economic and political conditions provide effective situation for the development of foreign trade and the change of its growth-pattern.This essay especially analyzes the relevant problems about the change of growth-pattern of our country's foreign trade and promotes reasonable measures and suggestions. The whole essay is divided into three chapters. The first chapter introduces the current status of the growth-pattern of our country's foreign trade, including the partition of growth-pattern, the characteristics of the present growth-pattern, the limiting factors to the change of growth-pattern and the analysis of how the present growth-pattern of our country's foreign trade comes into being.
