In recent decades, with the rapid development of science and technology and the frequent economic intercommunication activities among the countries, two phenomena have turned up to draw people's attention. First, entrepreneurial firms play an active and important role in modern economic activities. Second, China is more and more acting as a leading nation in the global economic activities. Accordingly, two changes have taken place in relevant fields: more and more worldwide researchers turn to the field of entrepreneurial firms, which makes the study on entrepreneurial firms quite popular; the focus of entrepreneurial study is gradually diverting from developed countries to more and more developing countries. Consequently, the study on entrepreneurial competency receives more and more attention.After the review of a large amount of relevant literature, the paper firstly summarizes the contributions and points out the inadequacy of former studies, and accordingly brings forward the research problem, basic theoretical model and research hypotheses. This thesis focuses on the interrelationship between entrepreneurial competency in small and medium sized catering enterprises and the performance ofthe enterprises. The empirical study is divided into two phases:I. Interview. The entrepreneur from 13 small and medium sized catering enterprises in Hangzhou and Huzhou were interviewed. "Behavioral Event Interview" was employed in this phase, and got acquainted with the basic characteristics of both the small and medium sized catering enterprises and the entrepreneur; and then the writer put more energy on the analysis of the interview records and induced the key activities of the entrepreneur, which were, whereafter, classified into the corresponding entrepreneurial competency dimension.2. Questionnaire. In this phase, the result drawn from the interview analysis was employed in the building of the tools of measurement for entrepreneurial competence. The questionnaires were distributed to catering enterprises in Hangzhou, Jiaxing, Ningbo, Wuxi, Huzhou and Shaoxing etc.. SPSS is used to analyze the data, which helps modify the entrepreneurial competency model. On this base, by adopting ANOVA, correlation, regression, and interaction analyses, this thesis improves the theoretical model and solves the research problem.Foundlings and advancement of this thesis: firstly, in China the entrepreneurial competency in small and medium sized catering enterprises is multi-dimensional, including opportunity competencies, organizing competencies, relationship...
