Chengda Engineering Corporation of China (Chenda for short) has made its rapid development in recent years. Yet, by feeling of the author, a member of the Company's top management, Chengda's development has insufficient sustainability. Moreover, the company is facing some considerable risks. For instance, the company currently has many projects on one hand and all levels in the company have'claptrap'mode and consciousness to furnish these tasks. On the other hand, all are concerning whether the business in the future is steady and have certain worry about the company's future. Chengda should make strategic consideration carefully while making rapid development to work out a suitable development way for itself.In the author's opinion, the external environment Chengda is facing at present is not quite favorable to Chengda's development. In the company itself, there are also quite many problems for urgent solving. Chengda should not expand by simple recruitment to become'strong and powerful'so as to obtain development. With the management knowledge acquired from SWUFE and integrating with Chengda's present problems as well as the author's observation and thinking in working, the article has surveyed and analyzed Chengda's development strategy and has given the author's suggestions.The article is consisted of four chapters.Chapter 1 describes the development and current status of the company covering Chengda's historic development and current information, problems to be faced in development and potential dangers. The article has made preliminary analysis to the survey and design sector of China and proposed a question'what is the road for Chengda's development'. Chapter 2 is SWOT analysis to Chengda including external environment analysis (opportunity and threatening); Three major changes of chemical industrial survey and design sector and analysis to the social economic development and policy environment; The situation and developing trend of China's project EPC operation. The analysis to Chengda's internal conditions (advantages and shortages) briefs Chengda's superior advantages and major shortages.Chapter 3 states that Chengda should adhere to project EPC operation as EPC is the international universal practice. It is a must way for going to the international market. The domestic market will definitely follow this way as well.Chapter 4 the author proposes several aspects for Chengda's improvement including serious thinking over the strategy, adjustment starting from engineering activities, concerning client's fundamental interest, concerning technical innovation, establishing talent and technology respect, close linking of procurement and design, establishing employing concerning and practicing human-oriented concept. In the author's opinion Chengda shall make decisive strategic adjustment and definitely follow the way of project EPC operation. It does not mean Chengda has no background of EPC operation, instead, Chengda should be aware of the target and more definite so as to concentrate more resource to pursue and implement EPC projects. The author hopes to provide some instructive comments to Chengda's future sustained development through such analysis and research.For limit of knowledge, the author sincerely welcomes any comments and correction for the mistakes and careless that may appear in the article.
