The Mobile Phone Industry, The Global Value Chain Analysis On The Zhangjiang Hi-phone Industry Cluster

With the development of the globalization and emerging international behavior, trade integration and vertical manufacturing has been the two most obvious characteristics of the global economics. The theory of Global Value Chain (GVC) combines these two aspects of economics behavior, which changes the mode of regional economics analysis from industry based to value based. As far as regional economics is concerned, especially for those regions matured by a definitive leading industrial cluster, transformation to industrial structure is no more a critical issue. However, to define future perspective as per the current phase of development in GVC by analyzing the developing situation of existed industrial cluster, which aims at developing high value-added service and sustainable promotion of industries, has appeared to be the focus of the research. For the region like Zhangjiang, one of the 54 high-tech zones all over China, some relatively mature leading industries have been established and developed well. Take cellphone industrial cluster as an example. As an industry deriving from intregrate circuit designing industry lengthways, it positions in a high-profile upon GVC, and aims at a high development. This will contribute a strategic significance not only to the local industries but also to domestic information industry. Additionally, the development of cellphone industry may also bring value of reference to other electronic commodities of consumption category.Theoretically on the basis of GVC, This dissertation analyzes the phenomenon of global decompounding in the manufacturing system in terms of the classification, supervision, strategic stage and impetus mechanism of GVC. Plus, the segmentation of that phenomenon in the regions is also illuminated, based on which, an assessment on local industrial clusters and a upgrade principle come up to propose the phenomenon, i.e., how the local industrial clusters go for high profit through the way of upgrading value chain and go for power of sustainable competition under the environment of Economic Globalization. Upon those theoretical analyses, this dissertation will summarize the definitive supervision pattern and evolution rules of value chain in the context of assessment on GVC of cell phone industry, therefore further investigate the current situation of the industry in the internationally and nationally. Then this dissertation tries to analyze and position the industrial cluster of cell phone Zhangjiang in the background of global cell phone value chain according to its characteristics. And finally it probes into the necessity and feasibility of upgrading that industrial cluster and submit some proposals to the future development and upgrade of this local industry.
