The product development capability is one of the motivations for the company, and also the important method to obtain the market competition advantage. With the growth of market demand and technical innovation, the product development becomes more and more important. As the key driven force, the R&D department received bigger force. The variety and multiplicity of market demand, the development cycle of product and other factors asks for the rapid response from the management team of the company. So the process of the product development is not the only issue for the R&D department, but also the cooperation of the related department.Now, how to connect the different departments to each other in the product development process? How to adopt the cross-functional organization effectively under the traditional functional organization? The project management is one of the best solutions which now is widely adopted in the Europe & America companies. And in the companies of China the project management and related operational process are not as mature as the oversea companies; also the oversea companies adopts the stable style-the functional organization; even some of them set up the project management system, the real work capability is not there.Base on the above conceptions, and take the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) for reference, the author takes the Philips CFL-I product development projects as example, use the collecting, analyzing and consulting to do the research and discussion work. The purpose is to analyze and find the effective way of the cross-functional team in the project of product development.The characteristics and personalities of the R&D employees at the CFL-I field is studied and analyzed also. Combine with the project management and motivation theories, this thesis gives the analysis of how to apply the cross-functional organization in the CFL-I product development projects, for the purpose of enhance the individual and team efficacy, finally improve the total product development process and efficacy.The management of cross-functional team is an important issue for the CFL-I product development and Project management. In order to join in and win the intensive competition of the manufacturing industry, it is necessary to study and make better use of the cross-functional organization.
