In recent years, the tourism industry developed rapidly and has become one of the world's largest and fastest growing industry, which also has extensive contacts with other industries. Since the eighties, China's tourism industry has experienced rapid expansion and sustained growth, after that, With the maturity of tourists'consumption psychology and the deepening of tourism market's development, the structure and pattern of domestic tourism market began to change, mean while, the traditional style of tourism such as"sight - seeing","point– line"began to transform into"experience"and"area tourism". In this case, the cooperation of tourism between cities became more and more close, and"Urban Agglomerations"gradually turns to be an important economic monomer in the competition of domestic tourism market.In this background, this paper analyzed tourism competitiveness of main"Urban Agglomerations"in China quantitatively. At first, the paper introduced the research in the field of Urban Agglomerations, Urban Agglomerations Tour, Tourism Competitiveness and pointed out the main deficiencies of existing studies. Then, based on systems theory, location theory, competition theory and the theory of labor division on geography, the paper defined the concept of"Urban Agglomerations'tourism competitiveness". In my thinking,"Urban Agglomerations'tourism competitiveness"is a relative concept, it is the overall strength reflected by the Urban Agglomerations while participation in the competition on tourism market. Many factors have influence on"Urban Agglomerations'tourism competitiveness", the factors can be divided into four major groups, which is Impetus of tourism development, The level of tourism development, External effects of tourism and Tourism economic connection."Urban Agglomerations'tourism competitiveness"can be defined as a function of the four variables.After analyseing the factors that have influence on"Urban Agglomerations'tourism competitiveness"and In the design of index system, the paper analyzed the tourism competitiveness of China's 11th largest Urban Agglomerations quantitatively. The selection of"Urban Agglomerations"based on the official data and related literature, the regional economic cooperation policy publicated by province - level government was also taken into account. Then, I calculated and classified"Urban Agglomerations'tourism competitiveness"of the 11 Urban Agglomerations with 2007'official statistics, useing multivariate statistical analysis of Factor analysis and Cluster analysis. From the outcome, the tourism competitiveness of Southeast Urban Agglomerations is stronger than the midwest Urban Agglomerations', but many relatively weak Urban Agglomerations also have advantage on some factors, therefore, for the Urban Agglomerations not good at tourism competitiveness, the most important thing is to exploit the comparative advantage and enhance the disadvantage to improve the whole competitiveness.Finally, the paper points out the main deficiencies existing and possible directions of further research, expecting a more comprehensive and detailed analysis of"Urban Agglomerations'tourism competitiveness".
