In the context of globalized economy and regional integration, urban agglomerations havebecome the basic geographical unit by which countries and regions around the worldparticipate in the global competition and the international division. Urban agglomerationshave grown up in China with the three urban agglomerations of Yangtze River Delta,Zhujiang River Delta and the city of Beijing ,Tianjin and Tangshan representative, but theShandong Peninsula urban agglomerations lags behind. Under the background and taking theShandong Peninsula urban agglomerations as the typical study region, this thesis builds up theindex system of the urban agglomerations competitiveness, analyzes and evaluates theShandong Peninsula urban agglomerations and the three urban agglomerations above. Thepaper tries to explore the approaches of enhacing the competitiveness of Shandong Peninsulaurban agglomerations.The thesis consists of four parts:The introduction compromises six parts--the study status quo of urban agglomerations andregional competitiveness at home and abroad, the models concerning the urbanagglomerations competitiveness study, the connotation of the urban agglomerationscompetitiveness, the study background and purpose, the definition of the geographical studyarea as well as the study methods. Through the analysis of correlated theories and modelsabove, the definition of the urban agglomerations competitiveness and the study scope andmethods are determined.In part two, the paper analyses the advatages, the limiting factors and the potentialinfluncing the competitiveness enhancement of the Shandong Peninsula urban agglomerations,and draws the coclusion that the Shandong Peninsula urban agglomerations has great potentialto improve its competitiveness.Part three mainly includes four aspects--the establishment of the index system with regardto the urban agglomerations competitiveness, the definition of the index value by way of levelanalysis, the evaluation of the Shandong Peninsula urban agglomerations and the three groupsabove, the evaluation of the contribution made by the eight cities in Shandong Peninsula tothe integrative competitiveness of the urban agglomerations. Through the evaluation andanalysis above, the gap between the peninsula urban agglomerations and the three leadingurban agglomerations is found.Part four puts forward the countermeasures and suggestions for the upgrade of theShandong Peninsula urban agglomerations' integrative competitiveness. The main contentsare as follows:To foster and strengthen the leading position of Qingdao city, binging along theenhancement of the regional integrated competitiveness;To boost the progress of the population urbanizaion, to optimize the urban and ruralstructure and to harmonize the space pattern in Shandong Peninsula;To ajust the intustry structure, to definitude the functions of each city and to strengthen theregional economic cooperation in Shandong Peninsula;To accelerate the cultivation of the city strech, to integrate the power of all the cities and toexert the overall regional superiority in Shandong Peninsula;To build up the conception of the sustainable development and to achieve the harmoniousdevelopment of the society, the economy and the environment in Shandong Peninsula.Through the evaluation and contrastive analysis of the Shandong Peninsula urbanagglomerations competitveness, the thesis , to some extent, brings forward the ideas to furtherthe enhancement of the peninsula urban agglomerations competitivenss. It can be used in asense.
