ObjectiveTo explore evaluation methods of TCM treatment efficiency, the study takes the disease of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) as an object, deals the information of the disease with computer statistic software---SAS. Meanwhile, the study of ANN (Artificial Neural Network) method, provides a new train of thought in exploring evaluation methods of TCM treatment efficiency. MethodThe study is supported by the Special Project in Foundational Work Sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology (2001DEA2001O) , and the Doctoral Project Funds Sponsored by the Ministry of Education (20050026011). This study collects RA cases treated with TCM therapy, and sets up information database, analyses data information with SAS(8.0)software. The study combines relative research of ANN, compares with traditional statistical methods, and draws into conclusions.ResultsThe distribution of RA in genders, ages and syndromes indicates clinical comparability (P>0.05). Treatment group and control group established overall equal efficiency (P=0.05). In syndrome treatment part (P>0.05), considered with symbol of U value, we can see the curative effect of treatment group is better than that of control group. Difference between two groups is notable (P<0.0001). Those two medicines both improve the RA syndromes, and have the equal effect on Health Index improvement (F=1.01,P=0.9976>0.05). And controlled medicine failed in improving joint pains. The digital information indicates that the results of clinical curative effect mainly match up to the real effect TCM treatments. ANN method is good at processing nonlinear data.ConclusionThe problems in evaluation of TCM treatment efficiency can be solved by TCM database combined with SAS statistical methods preferably. It provides train of thought in treatment efficiency evaluation. The combination of two ways may improve the accuracy of treatment efficiency evaluation considerably.
