Chinese idioms are important and difficult in the field of teaching Chinese as a second language (TCSL).This article observes and studies 125 Chinese idioms which are chosen from 30 TCSL textbooks. Then these idioms are designed into questionnaire in order to find out which are the students will make errors. Through errors analysis, this thesis discovers that there are four kinds of errors including writing, semantic, grammatical, and pragmatic. By investigating four high level students, this thesis also discusses the influence of transparency and context on students'understanding of these idioms. By talking to seven experienced teachers, this thesis provides some teaching suggestions in the end.This thesis can be divided into six chapters.Chapter 1:In this chapter, this thesis provides some basic information including the researching purpose, the value in doing it. It also summarizes the previous relevant study.Chapter 2:In this chapter, the thesis introduces the research methods, including the methods of idioms'choice and the design of the questionnaires.Chapter 3:In this chapter, the thesis first analyzes the foreign students'errors and then summarizes the source of errors. It also finds out that they make many errors in the aspects:writing, semantic, grammatical, and pragmatic.Chapter 4:In this chapter, the thesis analyzes four cases. It provides the four interviewee's basic information, as well as the material, method, process and the result of the investigation.Chapter 5:In this chapter, the thesis provides some teaching advices.Chapter 6:In this chapter, the thesis provides a brief summary and states inadequacies. There are still some questions worthy to be pondered deeply.
