Qin Zu-yong was a painter and theoretician of paintings in the Qing Dynasty. The thought of "leisure" in his theory of paintings was full of creative idea. He associated the word of "leisure" with many words, which came into being the different vocabularies of "leisure". And he pointed out various aesthetic patterns of "leisure", which was his audacious practice of traditionally literary paintings.This article tries to make major study about the thought of "leisure" in the theory of paintings of Qin Zu-yong and adopts the methods of classification, statistics, analysis of compare, induction and so forth. During probing into the historical origins of "leisure", this article makes full-scale investigation about diverse aspects of "leisure" from four sides of emotion, brush and ink, lingering charm and patterns of style and interprets particularly and vividly. To reveal the aesthetic connotation of "leisure", these viewpoints should be summarized and studied systematically and brought into one system, which will enrich and broaden the cognition of "leisure".
