This thesis makes a comprehensive study of "V在+L" Structure, which contains three parts:In the first part, the author studies the evolution of "V在+L". The main conclusions are as follows. ①"V在+L" has been formed since Han Dynasty. ②"V在+L" has been the dominant structure since Yuan and Ming Dynasty. ③The semantic function of "V在+L" had been changing from indicating "reaching somewhere by motion, state presenting in or action occurring in somewhere" to "reaching somewhere by motion or state presenting in somewhere". ④The mechanism of the evolution of "V在+L" comprises reanalysis, analogy, renovation, iconicity, and so on.In the second part, the author studies the valence and syntactic function of "V在+L", and mainly consists of three parts: ①The restrictions of verb in "V在+L" and the valence of the verb; ②The valence index of "V在" in "V在+L" and the semantic role of the substantive elements preceding or following "V在"; ③The syntactic patterns of "V在+L".In the third part, the author studies the semantic functions and pragmatic features. The author claims that "V在+L" indicates "reaching somewhere by motion" or "dynamic state presenting in somewhere" if the verb is action verb, and "V在+L" indicates "static state presenting in somewhere" or "state changing in somewhere" if the verb is state verb. The author also states that the pragmatic features generally has three aspects, as followings: a. The object is definite; b. The location is the semantic focus; c. The angle of view can be changeable. At the end of this thesis, the author discusses the pragmatic features of verb-copying construction of "V+O+V在+L".
