It was in the 17th century that the feudal society in Japan had prosperity, especially the commerce was developed rapidly. At the same time, the social position of Da Ban which was one of three famous cities was rising steadily. To great extent, merchant in Da Ban played a positive role to the development in business. Therefore, that we research the merchant of Da Ban the 17th century all sidely, is the most important way to understand national business and businessman of Japan, even its society. It is the center of the thesis. The author tries to use concrete methods, such as chart data and the study on a case, and wants to make a through analysis to the merchant of Da Ban, It reveal that the relationship between their activities and social change. The thesis includes four sections, of which the second and third parts considered the most important.Part I. The quantity and the method of their management. The author discusses the population proportion and the management of the upper and the lower levels, then draws the conclusion, though they were different from quantity to management, they played their proper role to commodity economy in the 17th century.Part II Market condition and medium of striving for money. Through the two phenomenon, Da Ming loan and Nian Gong rice, we can see the sense of management and their economic policy. By two means they safeguarded their economic interests and raised their social status.Part III Advice of family and rule of ship. It analyzes advice of Dao Jing and rule of San Jing, which both revealed the standard of life and ethics of business. This was a challenge to struggle for their existence.Part IV Social status and influence. Merchant of Da Ban, participated frequently in business activities and their social place was raised, then shook the hierarchy of feudal society. It was a tendency that transition fromnatural economy to commodity economy.
