Nowadays, it is not very common in the domain of graphic design in China to take Chinese character as a main design element. Aiming at this phenomenon, my article focuses on how to turn Chinese character into graphics, and tries to explore the potential development and new ideas in using Chinese character as graphics in graphic design.Chinese character, against the macroscopic background of world characters' development, belongs to hieroglyph and has inseparable relationship with graphics, so it' s easy to be turned into graphics. It has great guiding significance to study the development and formation of Chinese character and to learn from it. From the angle of graphics, the different aesthetic sensibility of each chirog-raphy and font are also decided by their graphic character: the strokes' form and configuration, which makes it easier for us to see the close relationship between Chinese character and graphics. The abundant works using Chinese character as graphics in Chinese traditional culture proved the feasibility and great potential of Chinese character graphics, and can give us beneficial edification in modern graphic design. Finally I explore the new ideas on how to turn Chinese character into graphics in modern graphic design with my own design practice. I hope this article will inspire other graphic designers to make joint efforts in order to carry our Chinese character culture forward.
