There had been many ancient ethnic groups in wide Europe continent, one of the oldest race groups was Celts. They had been dispersed all over the continent, and now many modern European countries had shared a Celtic past. The Celts had successively contacted, conflicted, and amalgamated with many other ancient groups which had existed in this continent, such as Iberians, Greeks, Romans, Etruscans and Germans, and etc. They also had attended the foundation of some modern European peoples. Approximately in early 1st millennium BC, the Celts began migrating to Ireland in succession, and in the long history periods, they conquered and assimilated the local aborigines and later invaders, gradually became the biggest race group in Ireland, and finally the biggest part of the modern Irish Nation. This dissertation will introduce the Celts' origin, language, distributing and migration, especially, with the focus on their migration and development in Ireland, thus try to show us the main course of the formation of modern Irish Nation. The dissertation is divided into 3 parts:Part one is the exordium. Based on the research of the predecessors, the article will tell us the academic survey about the Celtic, the general situation of the Celts, and some information about the Atlantic Celts. The Celts speak the Celtic of the Indo-Europe phylum, belonging to the west branch of the ancient Indo-European peoples. For the sake of research, scholars divided the Celts into two parts: the Continental Celts, the Atlantic Celts. The Celts in Ireland belongs to the Atlantic Celts, most of which is the Geals or the Goidels.Part two, based on the new research achievements in archaeology, linguistics and mythology, aims at analyzing the society, culture, religion and the contact with other peoples in the middle age after the Celts arriving in Ireland. It will also show us different viewpoints on some disputation and doubtful problems, such as the identity of the pre-celts aborigines, the route and time of the Celts arrived in Ireland etc.Compared with the Britain Celts, the Celts in Ireland hadn't been colonized bythe Romans, so they had kept more Celtic tradition. After the arrival of Ireland, the Celts conquered the local aborigines, took the island under their control, and then established around 100 small kingdoms arranged into five bigger groupings. Although in the middle age, there was a single High King at the head of the system, Ireland never developed an integrated system of central power, and, as a result, the situation of power system of Ireland was always in confusion and out-of-order. For the above reason, Ireland was becoming weaker and increasingly open to the hostile forces from outside. And in 600 years , the Vikings, Norman-English, Scottish peoples successively invaded Ireland, especially, since 12th century, Ireland had become the colony of England. Politically Ireland was no longer independent, but remained the Celts tradition in culture and racial character. They resisted the assimilation by the English , on the contrary, to a certain extent, they influenced the invading people by Celtic character, and finally turned them into the member of the Ireland society.Part three will lay emphasis on the leading influence of the Celts and Celtic factor in forming the modern Irish people, and try to help us understand some of important issue of the people's history and development course. The Celts became the main part of the modern Irish Nation by its numerous people; and within a kind of Celtic Course, they gradually assimilated the invading people, and led the forming of the modern Irish people. The Celts and Celtic factor also influenced the ethos of the modern Irish people. It also appeared in many aspects of the Ireland modern society, such as politics, arts and so on.
