Escape from one's own country is a very common phenomenon in the Spring and Autumn Period.The general reasons for the appearance of this phenomenon were political disorder , people's ideas, the history of escape and the kingdoms' extensive acceptance of refugees .As a matter of fact .there were also some specific reasons for the refugees to escape. The refugees were roughly divided into two types: the initiative and the passive. They had the following kinds of ends: living in other countries for the rest of their lives, returning to their own countries or being killed. They usually fled to the neighboring countries, the countries which had relative relationships with theirs or the bigger countries. Meanwhile , they also took some other factors into account. The number of the refugees suggested the stability of the political situation of the kingdom. The more refugees, the less stable the kingdom was. With the diminution of the political power ,the refugees ranged from the feudal princes to the senior officials ,and finally the servants also became a part of them.There were some relevant etiquette and systems about escape in the Spring and Autumn Period. As for the native countries, firstly, they would go to the refuge countries to make preparation for the refugees; they would inform the friend countries ;the rulers would take an oath with the officials about the refugees. As for the refugees, their fields and income would be kept for three years in their own countries. Before they left their own countries , they had to hold the farewell ceremony to their ancestors; under the general conditions they would not flee to the enemy countries; they could not cause harm to their native countries before they submitted to the rule of the refuge countries. However , they could do so after they submitted. The refuge countries would grant them the appropriate official position, salary and fields. There were some regulations about the grantThe Western Zhou Dynasty was a patriarchal society. The appearance of a large number of refugees had some effects on the patriarchal system . The appointment of the refugees had demolished the hereditary system and accelerated the formation of the feudal bureaucrat system. At last, the appearance of a large number of refugees had promoted the cultural exchanges among the feudal kingdoms in the Spring and Autumn Period.
