Preposition, known as a close catalog in modern Chinese, plays an important role in the grammar system. The primary function of preposition is to educe various parts to serve as adverbial modifier, complement or attribute in a sentence.Grammarians began to study prepositions with the theory of case grammar recently. They think that prepositions are formal marks of the semantic meaning. And they focused their study on the function of prepositions and prepositional phrases. For the sake of clarification of the semantic relations in sentences, the category and subcategory of language components, as well as the selection of the phrases should be illuminated. Therefore, according to case mark, prepositions in modern Chinese were classified into ten catalogs, six of which were studied in detail. Nominal phrases (NPK) in different prepositional phrases were studied, and the subcategory of NPK was plotted out. The partnership of prepositions and subcategory, and the selection of postpositions in this partnership were investigated. The most frequently-used prepositions were also picked out after statistical work.Typical prepositions were selected by the method of optimal selection. NPK was classified by the method of induction. Sentences with preposition were picked out by computer. Composition of NPK w'as studied by the method of depiction.
