Fuzziness is one of the essential properties of language. Linguists consider fuzziness to be neither a marginal nor a problematic phenomenon. In stead, they take fuzziness to be of crucial importance for its efficient usage in everyday communication. This paper introduces a widely existing phenomenon in human communication-fuzzy language and analyzes its pragmatic functions. The author starts from the definition of fuzziness, then examines the basic features of fuzzy language, the reasons for its existence and differentiates several confusable concepts. Then the paper studies fuzzy language from the pragmatic perspective, observing "Cooperative Principle" and "Politeness Principle" and focuses on its pragmatic functions, its main pragmatic fields, as well as its interaction with context. This paper holds that fuzzy language, just like precise language, is also a useful means of exchanging ideas. The appropriate use of fuzzy language does not hinder any effective language communication. Instead, it can, in many cases, make linguistic expressions more natural and graceful; convey human feelings and thoughts more effectively. From the point view of pragmatics, a comprehensive, systematic study of fuzzy language will be of vital importance in correctly understanding and using language in human communication.
