Concerning to the verb 'da' which have many meanings, the scholars often pay much attention to the meaning analysis only from the evolvement or only from one aspect of modern language materials. The research on the appearance of the void meaning of 'da' is not enough. The orientation of the void meaning is not nicety. When they researched into the characteristics and the influence of 'da', they didn't combine with the errors of the second language learners'. On the base of plenty of language materials, the dissertation combines the evolvement with the modern research in order to see about the evolvement of 'da"s meaning and the problem of its meaning items' setting up. Besides, we will also see about one meaning item's specialty and compare with some verbs, which have void meanings. The dissertation's research combines with the errors of the second learners and the writer hopes to help the language teaching.The principal parts are as follows:1. The research object is over 7,000 ancient Chinese sentences including 'da'. It will view about the evolvement of 'da"s meaning and analyze the gammaticalization process of 'da'. The conclusion is that it becomes the affix in some structure and it only has grammatical meaning and no lexical meaning.2. Match the morpheme meanings of 'da'in the same element words and the 'da"s meanings in sentences with 24 meaning items in "Modern Chinese Dictionary". According to the matchable statistic, we analysis the constructing abilities and the using frequency of each meaning items of 'da'. According to the unmatchable statistic, we find the word meanings and the morpheme meanings which "Modern Chinese Dictionary" didn't include and suggest supplying them.3. We try to find the similarities and differences between 'da' and 'zuo"zuo"nong"gao"gan' and so on and we find 'da' is not a void meaning verb and it is only a verb which has many meanings but whose demonstrative range is wide when comparing the verbs above from meanings, word strutting, syntax and functions. The representation of void meaning of 'da' is that its lexical meaning ebbs and it only has grammatical meaning when it unites with some verb morpheme and its substitution function doesn't have randomicity and the verbs' meanings which it substitutes have become the meaning items of 'da'.
