The 20 volumes "Wu Deng Hui Yuan" is a general collection of the Zen's historical documents complied by PuJi. This book records the interlocutions between Buddhist monks and Zenists. It includes a mass of questions. The Analects of Chan featured in it are important literature of the spoken language. For the present, researchers pay much attention to the collation, collection and hermeneutic on this book, while the grammatical research is far away from enough, thus we select the cross-questions and selective interrogative to do some research.Firstly, we make an overall and systemic description and classification of the cross-questions and selective interrogative, then we analyse the development of the two types of sentences and reveal their position in the history of Chinese grammar through historical comparision and synchronic study. Also we select some peculiar patterns in "Wu Deng Hui Yuan" to case study, trying to draw their development rules. There are two main patterns of cross-questions. The pattern "VP-Neg" is used mostly in cross-questions, and "VP-fou", "VP-wu" can be seen comparative widely. Another cross-questions pattern "VP-Neg-VP" is used less than "VP-Neg", but we can espy that it is progessing. The pattern "T, shifou" is germinations of adverd "shifou" in modern Chinese. The "shi" selective interrogative is an important pattern in spoken language of Song Dunasty. And the use of the selective interrogative pattern without conjunctions and particle words is at a high proportion too.In these patterns, some of them come from remote ancient Chinese, some of them belong to middle ancient Chinese, some of them reflect the character of recent Chinese, and some of them are germinations of some patterns in modern Chinese. Besides, due to the uique nature of the Chan community, and the fact that the literature concerned is Analects of the sect, the grammatical features present in "Wu Deng Hui Yuan" show some peculiarity and were decided by unique pragmatic contexts. For example, the patterns "VP-ye-wu" and "NP/VP-shi, NP/VP-shi" are special ways of expression.
