Shiji(the poems illustrating Zen)is a unique Chinese poetry genre, and its generation is influenced by the Gatha of Indian Buddhist scriptures.Gatha originates from the traditional poetic style of India and is widely used in Buddhist scriptures.Since Han Dynasty, monks and the literati first translated and read the unique foreign religious poetry and then started to imitate and create literary works.Such creation is not a simple imitation of the Buddhist scriptures. It has been combined with China's long tradition of poetry. The content and form are both Chinesized, and the unique poetic genre,“Shiji”,which integrates the elements of religion, poetry and music, was created. In the Zen light records compilation written in Southern Dong Dynasty,Wu Deng Hui Yuan, and nearly a thousand Shiji poems created in Tang Dynasty and Song Dynasty are preserved. These Shiji poems show the unique literary characteristics and artistic style of Chinese religious poetry and present the relationship between foreign religious poetry and the poetry created by Chinese literati. They are an important part of Chinese traditional poetry. The Shiji of Han evolved from the Gatha of Indian Buddhism, which has its own classification, formation reasons, style and poetic characteristics.Under the influence of Indian Buddhist Gatha, the poems of Buddhism in the Eastern Jin Dynasty and the Buddhist chants of the southern Dnyasties gradually evolved into the Shiji poems of Tang Dynasty and Song Dynasty. The Shiji poems in Wu Deng Hui Yuan reflect the style and functions of the Shiji poems of China. The Shiji poems of Wu Deng Hui Yuan can be divided into three types. The first is the poem of Zen theory which mainly shows the theory, practice and evolution process of Zen.The second is the poem of Zen charm which mainly reflects meditation life, poetry communications, glorification and condolence. The third is the poem of Zen sense which mainly presents the mental state, content conception and artistic conception. The Shiji poems of Wu Deng Hui Yuan have distinctive artistic characteristics.Gatha and poetry shares certain similarities in thinking, such as the emphasis for comprehension, language limitations and static space. The specific artistic techniques used in the Shiji poems of Wu Deng Hui Yuan include implication, defamiliarization, intuitive feeling and environment creation.Such artistic techniques create a popular and new artistic style with a sense of emptiness and beauty.Shiji and the literati have a relationship of two-way interaction. The influence of Shiji upon literati poems is mainly the influence for the creation of Shiji poems conducted by the literati and the influence upon the specific style and skills of the poems in Tang and Song Dynasties. The influence of literati poems is mainly reflected in the process of literati stylization and refinement of Shiji poems.
