| Shih-Shuo Xin Yu has many materials reflecting the condition of Wei-Jin period's literature theory and criticism. It involves writers' tales, criticism on writers and works, the literature appreciate tendency's etc. Thorough research on these materials has important meaning for investigation of Wei-Jin period's literature theories and literature conception. This essay, based on the text of Shih-Shuo Xin Yu, on investigating the philosophy thought, the person's mindset, the literature theories of Wei-Jin period, studies the literature theories and tendency of "the period of Shih-Shuo Xin Yu". The essay is to reveal the function and the meaning of Shih-Shuo Xin Yu on the literature theory development of Wei-Jin period. The essay is divided into four chapters:The first chapter is the "introduction". It's about the studies of Shih-Shuo Xin Yu from the literature theories aspect. This brief retrospect aims to analyze former studies' conclusions as well as theirs defects, laying a foundation for the afterward discuss toward Shih-Shuo Xin Yu's literary thoughts.The second part is mainly about "Shih-Shuo Xin Yu and 'Xu Jing' theory in Wei-Jin period". Firstly, this chapter introduces the studies on "Xu Jing" theory in Wei-Jin period, especially the "Xu Jing" theories of Lu Ji's and Liu Xie's. Then the essay points out the great drawback of thestudies is the poor attention on "Xu Jing" theory of Dong Jin dynasty. Then, based on the text of Shih-Shuo Xin Yu, the essay analyzes two features of "Xu Jing" theory of Dong Jin dynasty: one is emphasizing the quiet character; the other is emphasizing the mood enjoying mountains and water.The third chapter is about "Shih-Shuo Xin Yu and the 'gift theory' of Wei-Jin period". It contains two aspects: one is about the characteristics of the "gift theory" in Wei-Jin period; the other is about the concrete expression of the "gift theory" on literature. Based on the analysis of Shih-Shuo Xin Yu, we discover that "gift theory" of Wei-Jin embodies mainly in emphasizing personage intelligence, brilliant expression of emotions and individuality. And in the region of literature, this fashion embodies mainly in paying attention to creating the speed rapidness , flowery language and individuality.The forth chapter is about "Shih-Shuo Xin Yu and views of literature function in Wei-Jin period". Based on the content of Shih-Shuo Xin Yu, we can know the views of Wei-Jin period on literature function. The views of Wei-Jin on the literature social function have two parts, one is the traditional political effect, and the other is the function on "philosophy talking and individual taste" which embody the special features of Wei-Jin period. And the views of Wei-Jin toward literature sentiment effect also have the special features of ages: Usually they can"comprehend" deeper philosophy meanings from the others work which can edify their heart and spirit; moreover, it displayed the aesthetic tendency of Wei-Jin period: "Sorrow is Beauty". Also through the analysis of Shih-Shuo Xin Yu, we can know the understandings of the causations why literature has these functions by Wei-Jin period. Moreover, this kind of understanding has close contact with the sentiment characteristic, aesthetic characteristic of literature. |
