Shi Shuo Xin Yu, which recorded the words and behavior of some historical persons from the end of Han dynasty to East Jin dynasty, is now regarded as a novel about persons in Chinese literature. The material recorded in the book has historical value, and the most important is the culture value of the figures described in the book. As an earlier novel in Chinese literature history, the figures created are undoubtedly very successful. The book classified the words and behavior of the figures into thirty-six parts and this article divided it again in Chapter One by the ability and wisdom, character, emotion and morals of the figures in order to find out some characteristics from the different figures to reflect the spirit and culture of that time. In Chapter Two the article sums up the characteristics of the figures. They were very talented and had strong emotions; they pursued freedom and independence; they were looking for a spirit paradise, but they were also tempted by actual desire. No one' s action can be separated from the society that he is living. Therefore, these characteristics were affected by the politics, idea, and culture of the time. To be clear, they were influenced by the confusion of the politics, the persons commenting atmosphere in the end Of Han dynasty and the empty talks on Dao theories. In Chapter Three thearticle discussed the value of the figures the book described. The book has being loved for thousands of years, because the figures it created have great value on side of aesthetics. At the same time, as an influenced media, the idea it held was more valuable. The figures in the book were not only handsome and unconventional as Taoist, but they were also loyal to their country and people as Confucianist. So they have been attracting people all along. In every dynasty they were admired and learned by many intellectuals. That is, the book supplied some ideal models for them.
