Based on the the Three-dimension theory of modern Chinese, this thesis has absorbed and profited the related"bei"sentence from the predecessor and made a comprehensive study on"bei"sentence,"chi"sentence and"meng"sentence in Outlaws of the Marsh, which is a lengthy vernacular novel. In a certain extent, this study open out a full view of"bei"sentence in recent Chinese, and this study has made clearer the position of Outlaws of the Marsh in language history. This thesis holds that passive constructions are not passive sentences, and also"bei"sentences are not passive sentences, which should be studied differently. Not only passive constructions but also passive sentences with"bei"are the majority of those in Outlaws of the Marsh. The number of passive sentences with"bei"is 670, which is more than 70%. The number of"chi"sentences is 83 and the number of"meng"sentences is 81, which is almost the same. In addition, there are small amount of passive sentences, which are with"jiao","zao","shou","zhe","cheng","de","jian","wei".This thesis focuses on passive sentences ,and these sentences are studied by data statistics from syntax, semantics and pragmatics. On syntax, the passive sentence pattens of Outlaws of the Marsh have been already very rich, which is similar with those of Modern Chinese. Differently there are sentences of double passive components, which are lost in modern Chinese. On semantics, semantic colour includes"lucky","unlucky"and neutral colour , which is similar with modern Chinese. On pragmatics, both pragmatic environment and pragmatic abbreviation are similar with modern Chinese. Therefore, passive sentences in Outlaws of the Marsh are very mature."Ling"passive sentences are not real passive sentences, which are a little special, and only can be called"bei"sentence. Of course, there are"ling"passive sentences with"chi"."ling"passive sentences are devided into two types, and one is having passive component, while the one is not having passive component. Those types of sentences are residual in modern Chinese, specially in dialect.Structures with"bei"and"chi"don't form into an integrated sentence, which are only a part of sentence. The number of structures with"bei"is 71 and the number of structures with"chi"is 16. The author also studies those by the three-plane theory.Passive sentences in Outlaws of the Marsh are different from ancient Chinese and mediaeval Chinese, and these sentences are similar with modern Chinese."Ling"passive sentences, structures with"bei"and structures with"chi"also have the value of study.
