Measure words are parts of speech with special characteristic in Sino-Tibetan language. When learning Chinese as a foreign language, students may find it a difficult point. In this thesis, we carry out a survey to find out students' cognizance of learning measure words and the problems they may encounter. After analysis and discussion of the survey, we try to research into the basis and feasibility of generalization of "ge", and then marshal a sequence of individual measure words which is relatively rational.This thesis is composed of four chapters:The first chapter gives a brief account of the research purpose and methods of this thesis, and reviews previous research works;In the second chapter, on the basis of a survey, we learn about students' cognizance of learning measure words. Some difficult problems in the survey are fully analyzed. One obvious phenomenon is that students tend to generalize "ge", which is worth further observing and researching. In addition, a survey for teachers is also done;In third chapter, we discuss the existence and reason of generalization of "ge" from various aspects. Three conditions of using "ge" is outlined: "ge" must be used; "ge" must not be used; and "ge" may or may not be used, which is a foundation for next chapter.Continued from the proceeding paragraph, the last chapter is dedicated to dividing 5 levels of individual measure words when teaching Chinese as a foreign language. As for teaching methods, cognition method, evolvement method and context intensifying method are mentioned. We hope that some assumptions and suggestions can be useful and instructive.
