On The Typed Characters In Lawrence's Short Stories

When people talk about David Herbert Lawrence, the focus is his novel. But as the most famous novelist in the world, his short story is the treasure of the literature. And now, the mainly domestic and foreign researches are the art and the theme, but they neglect the characters of the short story. Even characters were analyzed as individuals; they neglected their common features. Lawrence had mentioned the specialty of his characters in his letters, but it didn't draw the attention of others. Through Lawrence's works and other research materials, I explore the world of the types.By researching examples and the theory, I find out the type exist his short story. The object reason is the literature style of the short story, and the subject cause is the writer, they can profoundly express the theme. According to individuality and function ,Lawrence's characters are divide into 3 types, rebelling characters,sex characters and abnormal characters. The significance of the type is to build the types, express a theme and express a kind of spirit of writers. The rebelling characters express Lawrence's self-value and personality independence. When realize the decayed realist and feudal morals, they save themselves and rebel the society. Lawrence believes that only unearth the instinct and release the inhibited emotion can the humans be awaked, then they are awaked from the disordered and constrained living conditions caused by confronting the industrial civilization and mortal decay. Sex characters recognize that sex can reborn the personality which is destroyed by the modern civilization and promote the combination of soul and body, and also the reconstruction of sex relationships can solve the human survival crisis. The sex characters express Lawrence's sexual theory that sex can recover their vitality, and we need harmonious sexual relationship and respect the sex. Britain, which the abnormal characters lived in, has a decayed mortal society, with full of mormonism, hedonism and war atmosphere. Industrial civilization and war makes human abnormal, and then they lost their personality and become machines. The abnormal characters express the criticism and irony of the society .Humanity is damaged by mechanical civilization and terrible war ,it cause into self-splitting,abnormal love and so on .Additionally, I realize the defect of the type is lacking of innovation.
