Characters Commonly Used In The Primary Stage Students

Nowdays, the research on chinese characters is a hot topic in teaching chinese as a foreign language , we find a lot of scholars have already paid emphasize on teaching and learning of chinese characters by foreign studengts, but the basic research are limited, such as the volume of the most necessary characters for foreign students in their first semester. This paper aimed at finding out the a number of most neccessary characters for beginners.On the basis of descriptions and analyses on ten different datas ,which include datas of the characters most frequently used by native speakers, the datas of the characters most widely used in teaching textbooks and the datasof the characters most necessary for foreigners in their daily life, the author choosed 480 characters for beginners and did a Sampled Test on 50 foreign students in elementary level . The test results show that, comparatively speaking, the foreign students have a better command of the pronunciation and meanings of the Chinese characters but are very poor in character shapes. In addition, this paper has also investigated the radicals and components of the 480 characters. The data resulting from this paper put forwards some referential suggestions for the future textbook compliers and teaching chinese as a second langguage.
