The verb reduplication is very common in Chinese, it is one of the difficulties of teaching Chinese to foreigners. Through analysis of the errors and the correct condition of foreign students' acquisition of Chinese verb reduplication, this thesis attempts to offer corresponding suggestions to teachers, foreign students and teaching material on teaching Chinese to foreigners. On the grounds of our investigation, the researching of verb reduplication is very weak in the field of teaching Chinese to foreigners; the articles about analysing acquisition of verb reduplication by error analysis are very few. The thesis carried out a systematic research on foreign students' acquisition of verb reduplication in order to make up for short of the research in that field in academic circle.Error analysis is an important component of Second Language Acquisition theory, which developed from the comparative analysis. It made great progress relative to comparative analysis, but there are still a lot of shortcomings of its own, the prominent problem is that error analysis just researches leaners' errors, it is hard to fully reflect the acquisition of leaners in the whole, so the conclusions drawn may be biased. The thesis analysed foreign students' language material from the aspects of errors and correct acquisition to arrive at relatively comprehensive conclusions. Besides, the thesis researched Vietnam class specially. When doing that, the writer analysed language material including both exam paper and compositions, so that we can research foreign students' acquisition from the aspects of specially conscious study and natural expression of Chinese to reach relatively scientific conclusions.In the course of the researching, the thesis firstly summed up the research results of verb reduplication before in Chinese, and introduced the theories of error analysis and communication strategies which all belong to Second Language Acquisition. These are the theory basis of the whole thesis. Then, basing on investigating the Chinese teaching material for foreign students and consulting teaching programme and relevant books, the writer designed the exam paper, and carried out an exam to foreign students of senior stage in the international college of Chinese studies of Shaanxi Normal University. To research the acquisition of Vietnam class specially, the writer also collected the compositions of Vietnam class in order to compare with their exam papers to research the condition of Vietnam class' acquisition more comprehensively. Learners of Second Language Acquisition often use avoidance strategy when they learn second language. To determine the avoidance standard and research foreign students' acquisition much better, the writer carried out an exam to Chinese students, so that, we can recognize the language sense of most Chinese people as a reference point to judge whether foreign students avoid using some Chinese. Then, the writer used the Chinese theory, error analysis theory and communication strategy theory to analyse language material containing Chinese students' papers, foreign students' papers and Vietnam class' compositions, summed up the condition of foreign students' acquisition of verb reduplication systematically, analysed reasons of the condition. Finally, basing on this research ,the writer gave some ideas on the research of Chinese itself, Chinese application and Chinese acquisition.Through this research, the writer has drawn the following conclusions: First, some problems of Chinese which are commonly used in Chinese, but highly controversial in academic circle must be resolved as soon as possible to adapt to the need of Chinese teaching. Second, we must combine special paper material with natural language material of foreign students, combine written language material with spoken language material when researching some Chinese knowledge, combine error analysis with correct acquisition analysis when researching Chinese acquisition of foreign students by error analysis. Achieving the "three combinations", we can come to relatively scientific conclusions when using error analysis theory to research the Chinese acquisition of foreign students. Third, responding to the classroom teaching and textbook compilation, we should add some contents of Pragmatic knowledge appropriately to students of senior classes in order to improve their consciousness of learning and using pure Chinese.
