Although the verb reduplication is a grammar point which appears earlier in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, there is little relative study from the point of teaching Chinese as a foreign language excluding the original one, and each school holds different views on the definition, the grammatical meaning and expressive functions of verb reduplication in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.Analyzing and studying the Chinese verb reduplication aims at clarifying its handling characteristics and rules, thus helps to easily find the common mistakes made by the oversea students. In this paper, the linguistic data was collected by making a questionnaire and asking some oversea students to complete it. Besides, I have analyzed the findings and found out why it is difficult for oversea students to acquire the Chinese verb reduplication, and many relative advices will be provided purposefully. The paper will help teachers to get more scientific and reasonable teaching methods by investigating and analyzing errors made by the oversea students in acquiring the verb reduplication.Meanwhile, it will be very helpful for the oversea students to better understand the grammatical meaning and expressive functions of the verb reduplication, reduce errors and perfect themselves in wording.Discussion on many items such as the textbook compilation, classroom instruction and error avoidance by the oversea students presents certain practical values, and provides theoretical guidance for teachers working at teaching Chinese as a foreign language, makes up for the deficiency of the relative study and promotes the teaching business.
