Quality-oriented education has become the subject of feverish speculation.Music education as one necessary part of it has been given more attention:the country did much for the reform of music education,some reform measures were taken.There is a steady incretion in the opening of new music courses;the music education system in school has improved constantly,the overall quality of the faculty has been continuously improved,the teaching facilities were more and more strengthened, plenty of music activities were offered after class and school;the scientific research on music education has gained lots of fruitful result.However,besides the achievement,there are some negative factors,take the opening of new music courses as an example,some give up for regarding the weak condition of the countryside; some give up for regarding the preparing of the senior middle school entrance examination;some complain that music education can't be improved if the employ system of the society and the national entrance examination to university don't take a fundamental change;some even assert that exam-oriented education has profound trainable cultural roots in our country and consequently music courses are far from necessary.These ideas didn't keep up with the times and were too old.In the background of the quality-oriented education,we should face these problems with a positive attitude:the goal of music education has not been well developed,the difficulty in the opening of new courses,the indifferent attitude of the countryside school,the severe shortage of faculty,instruments and investment,scientific research on music is still not on track etc.The existence of these problems will hamper the overall development of music education,and these problems deserve our attention.The thesis does a all-around and deeper investigation to the current music education situation in primary and secondary schools in Taiyuan by several methods such as Questionnaire investigation,interview and observation.And the author collected some valuable materials by visiting all kinds of schools.The thesis made an analysis to the current situation of music education in Taiyuan and concluded some reason of all the above issues,made some suggestions in order to trigger some new applicable method and policy.Therefore,discussed some method and measures which are suitable for this city.It's a topic that will provide a clue to the enactment of the new music standard in the city,also a guideline to improve the music teachers' educational work,their competence and the ability of scientific research.It is of realistic significance to the stable development of music education in the whole city of Taiyuan.
