The year of2001witnessed a basic education curriculum reform in China. As one part of this great tide, the reform on music education caught a great attention from the public. With the formulation and promulgation of the Full-time Compulsory Education Standards of Music Lessons, the school music education in China entered a new historical era. Gratifying signs can be shown in the improvement of the quantities and qualities of teachers and facilities. Moreover, as the status rising of music education, various teaching and research activities also began to spring up.Jinan, as the capital of Shandong Province,, has always taken the leading role in music education in this province. Despite those achievements already gotten, there exist some problems in music education, such as the difficulty in integrating the new curriculum content to the actual teaching; the lack of teachers and the inadequacy of supporting services in the township middle schools, and so on.This paper, by investigating the town center as well as the surrounding township middle schools in Jinan through methods like questionnaires and interviews, aims to study the current situation of music education of secondary schools in Jinan. The research starts by analyzing this city’s current situation in secondary school music education, namely, the basic quality of their music teachers and music teaching, the management mechanism of their hardware facilities, the management mechanism, the extracurricular activities and the traditional classroom teaching, the environment of music education, and researches made in this field. The questionnaire is divided into two types.251were issued to students, while30were doled out to teachers. All schools are well selected to ensure the veracity and representativeness of this research. In the end, this paper will present the overall state of music education in middle Schools of Jinan. One the one hand, this thesis is practical by providing a comprehensive summary of the first-hand information for the study of contemporary music education, on the other, it is of high academic value by applying the philosophy of education, the content of education, teaching methods, education evaluation and management, as well as scientific research approaches. Moreover, this thesis put forward some creative and constructive ideas on music lesson reform on the basis of the former studies and the result of this research, in the hope of invoking more sparks and ideas to elevate the music education in jinan as well as places around to a better level.
