In the compulsory education period, the curriculum for music class focuses onfour aspects: sense and appreciation, expression, innovation, and cultural background,which correlate with each other into to a dialectical unity relationship. The classroomteaching of instrumental music within the expression aspect has got a higher andhigher status and gradually recognized to be effective in cultivating the aestheticsensibility and comprehensive qualities of students. This paper points out that theclassroom teaching of instrumental music still need to be improved through fieldsurvey on the reality of the classroom teaching of instrumental music. A number offactors have hindered the development of classroom teaching of instrumental music,such as low interest of students, great differences among students’ basic educationbackground of music instrument, great differences of students’ music instrument basis,the mismatch of music education and aesthetic education, and problems of theInstrument intonation and quality. As a result, it is necessary to do research on theprimary and middle school instrumental music education.There are four chapters of this paper. As an introduction, the first chapterillustrates the significance and value of the research from the aspects of subjectselection, domestic and foreign research conditions, research significance and theeffect of classroom instrumental music education from the perspective of theory andpractice.The second chapter is the result of the investigation on the current condition ofthe primary and middle school instrumental music education in Shenyang.Investigations on students, teachers and parents of9schools are conducted throughinterview and questionnaires, with data analyzed later.The third chapter is about the analysis of the research result. The problemsexisted in classroom instrumental music education are revealed.The fourth chapter is about countermeasures and reflection on the primary andmiddle school classroom instrumental music education. By analyzing the problems,the countermeasures for promoting the primary and middle school classroominstrumental music education are concluded from the following five aspects: theenhancement of students’ interest, the modification of the consciousness of classroom instrumental music education, the improvement of teaching methods, the emphasis onclassroom instrumental music education procedure and music itself, the effectivenessof instrumental music education, and the estheticism in instrumental music educationand the selection of appropriate instruments according to students’ ability.
